Berman Hebrew Academy seeks a part-time Technical Director to provide consistent technical support for its Performing Arts Department, mentor student technicians, and support performances, school events, and facility rentals.
Schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1:00–3:00 PM, plus approximately 4 hours per week for two weeks prior to each tech week. Three production tech weeks are supported each year — Fall Production (Nov 8–16), Middle School Production (Jan 4–10), and Spring Production (Mar 28–Apr 4) — covering technical rehearsals, cue programming, equipment setup, student crew supervision, performance support, and strike.
Responsibilities: • Maintain and troubleshoot sound, lighting, and projection systems • Support rehearsals, performances, and school events; assist with scenic construction, installation, and strike • Train and mentor Middle School and Upper School student technicians • Organize and maintain technical inventories and storage areas • Support outside rentals and community events, including client meetings, setup and strike, system operation, and on-site technical support
Qualifications: • B.A. in Technical Theatre • Demonstrated experience with theatrical sound and lighting systems • Ability to troubleshoot and maintain technical theatre equipment • Strong communication and organizational skills and the ability to work effectively with students of all ages • Preferred: 2+ years in an education environment, 2+ years of shop management, and experience training student technical crews
Compensation: $4,500 annual stipend for the regular school-year schedule, plus $50/hour for rental and outside-event work.
