Job Description

Shalom Austin is the hub of Jewish life in Central Texas, providing programs, services, and resources that connect, empower, and support the community. Jewish Family Service (JFS) is its social service branch, offering dignified and compassionate support to individuals and families across the Austin area.

This is a limited-term AmeriCorps position consisting of 12 hours a week with a total service commitment of 300 hours. The Community Support & Engagement Member supports programs that promote understanding, inclusion, and meaningful connections among diverse groups in the Austin community, and helps coordinate educational experiences that increase understanding of Jewish history, culture, traditions, and community life.

A key focus is supporting opportunities for Jewish teens and community members to share their lived experiences with Jewish and non-Jewish peers. The Member also supports Shalom Austin's disability and inclusion initiatives, including the RAISE employment program.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with planning and facilitating cultural and educational programs, workshops, and presentations • Prepare educational materials, presentations, and participant resources; maintain attendance records and program data • Support the RAISE employment program for adults with disabilities through volunteer engagement, program coordination, and job coaching • Support programs that engage Jewish teens as educators, storytellers, and community ambassadors • Assist with outreach to schools, community organizations, and partner agencies • Create and organize educational materials, discussion guides, and cultural learning resources

Compensation: Living allowance of $3,300 paid biweekly ($188.57), plus an education award of $1,565.08 earned at the end of term. Includes a free membership to the fitness and aquatics center and regular training opportunities.

Hours: 12 hours per week, September 14, 2026 through May 14, 2027.
